Filippo " Il buono"

Che
dire? Il pezzo è impegnativo ed è un soggetto molto affascinante. Si
tratta di Filippo II "il Buono", Duca di Borgogna ed è stato premiato
con un bronzo nel 2013 alla Mostra Internazionale di Monte San Savino.
L'araldica
è molto complessa ed è costituita da un blasone inquartato con le armi
di Borgogna. Al 1° e 4°, azzurro con fiordalisi oro con bordura argento e
rosso (Borgogna moderna); al 2°, sulla sinistra banda d'oro e azzurra
di sei pezze con bordura rossa (Borgogna antica), mentre a destra, nero
con leone oro armato e linguato rosso (Brabante).
Il pezzo presenta notevoli difficoltà.
La
prima è indubbiamente la postura del cavallo, sbilanciata in avanti e
che deve essere assicurata sul piedistallo con solo due perni avvitati
attraverso gli zoccoli delle sole due zampe posteriori. Un’impresa che
vi assicuro è tutt'altro che facile.
La
seconda riguarda l'armatura che in questo caso è dorata. Quindi il
lavoro svolto è stato diverso e particolare. Per fortuna la scultura è
di pregevole fattura sin nei più piccoli dettagli e questo mi ha
permesso di essere soddisfatto del risultato, nonostante le molte ore di
lavoro richieste.

What
else? This carving was quite difficult to make, but it’s a very
charming subject indeed. It portrays Philip II aka The Goodman, Duke of
Burgundy, and for it I was awarded with a bronze medal on 2013
International San Savino International Exhibition.
His
heraldry is very complicated, and it is made of a quartering Burgundy
coat of arms. On 1st and 4th quarter, blue field with gilt lilies
bordered in silver and red (modern Burgundy); on the 2nd quart, on the
left gilt and blue band made of six red border emblazonments (ancient
Burgundy), while on the right side, black field with armed gilt lion
with red tongue (Brabante).
Many difficulties in making this carving.
The
first one is the horse position, without any doubt. It lists ahead and
it had to be fastened on the pedestal only with two pins screwed through
the hooves of the anterior paws. I can grant you this work was anything
but easy.
The
second one is the armour which is gilt, in this case. So the job made
was different and peculiar. Luckily the carving is beautifully crafted,
and this left me very satisfied with what I made, though I had to work
hardly to reach my goal.
