Black Prince

Black Prince is the name given to Edward of Woodstock, Prince of Wales. His well-established fame is due to his victories in Poitiers and Najera.

He was born on June 15th, 1330 from Edward III and Philippa d’Hainault. His baptism of fire comes with the pitched battle of Crécy, on August 26th, 1346 when his father – asked for his help during the battle – answers to the loyal sir Thomas Norwich: «May my son gain his sprons today». He didn’t have to be asked twice! He died at 46 because of illness, but not during a battle.

The carving here presented shows him in all his splendour with the loyal, in livery as well.

Il Principe Nero in realtà è il nome di fama dato a Edward of Woodstock Principe di Galles, fama consolidata dalle sue vittorie a Poitiers e Najera.

Nato il 15 giugno del 1330 da Edoardo III e Philippa d'Hainault, si conquisterà il battesimo delle armi nella battaglia campale di Crecy il 26 agosto 1346, quando suo padre alla richiesta di aiuto in battaglia, rispose al suo fidato Sir Thomas Norwich: "che mio figlio si guadagni gli sproni oggi". E non si fece pregare!

Morì a 46 anni stroncato non dalle sue eroiche e temibili gesta, ma da una malattia.

Il modello che ripropongo lo vede in tutto il suo splendore con il suo fido al seguito, ovviamente anch'egli blasonato.
